SPICE UP YOUR LIFE WITH THE GOODNESS OF HERBS & SPICES

Chances you are sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon in your bowl of cereal in the morning , add a little pepper to your soup, or oregano seasoning to your pizza topping without giving the spice much thought. Who would have thought that nearly every spice in existence has goodness as well as some interesting facts lurking in its history?


Food lovers will turn up their  noses at dishes that don't have the right combination of flavours. Good cooks will swear by their spices down to the last pinch.
Spices are vital part of culinary art. They are used for cooking in all parts of the world. 
One of the joy of travel in Sri Lanka is the delicious , Spice rich food. Cardamom, Cloves & Cinnamon are endemic to Sri Lanka. Our ancestors used "Kaluduru" to prepare meals
Fragrant clove, nutmeg , cardamom, mace, cinnamon & pepper thrive in the hills of Sri Lanka . They are produced for export significance.


During early historical times too Sri Lanka, known as "Taprobane" , was world renowned for its quality spices. Greeks, Romans & the Arabic people maintained their link with the isle through the spice trade. The Portuguese, Dutch & British soon began trading spices. They began incorporating their own history & influences into the field. 
The saying,"a herb is a friend of physicians & the praise of cooks" rightly suggests the dual role of herbs & spices in flavoring & providing health benefits. Besides their aroma , flavour & preservative properties, herbs & spices are known for their therapeutic benefits. Research has shown that they have the potential to boost metabolism, promote satiety , help with weight management & improve the overall quality of your diet.
